How to Use Bun Steamer

When the new equipment is used for the first time, clean the inside and outside of the equipment first, and then add water to heat for about 60 minutes. When the hot water is cooled, the water is emptied before use; (Note: The fog is slightly obvious when the new machine is used for the first time, which is a normal phenomenon. After a week, the fog will gradually decrease.)

Inject clean water into the sink until the high water level scale line.

When the power is plugged in and the main switch is turned on, the temperature control switch must be rotated 70℃, and the heating indicator light is on, and the machine officially begins to operate. When the temperature in the box rises to 70℃(that is, the indicator light goes out for the first time), put the thawed food into the steam.

Turn the temperature control knob scale to 100℃, each cooking food recommended time in 60 minutes or so, can also be controlled according to the self.

After steaming, manually adjust the temperature control knob to 70℃(i.e. the state of insulation).

Repeat steps (4) and (5) if you start a new wave of food cooking.

In use, when the water level is lower than the low water level scale of the sink, the machine will alarm, and the water should be added to the high water level scale in time.

Precautions for Using Commercial bun steamer

Traditional steamers are made of bamboo, which has good air permeability and is suitable for steaming. If there is no bamboo steamer, when purchasing a steamer, you should pay attention to buying one that can fit the lid of the steamer.

Tips
Wait for the water to boil again

If you want to steam something, please wait for the water to boil in the pot before adding the material. During the steaming, you should steam off the water, but if you want to stew something, you should directly put it in the water for heating.

When adding water, please heat it

When the water is to be steamed, the pot must always be filled with hot water. If there is too little water, the amount of steam will be reduced, and the edge of the steamer will be easily burnt. As long as the water is not enough, add hot water immediately, and the temperature will not drop.

The time and heat of steaming vary depending on the materials

Most materials are usually steamed over high heat, such as meat or fish. But if you want to steam the egg, you'd better steam it over a low heat, so there will be no pits on its surface. When steaming for a long time, it should be avoided to open the cover midway, because this will reduce the temperature in the steamer. Finally, please steam according to the amount and size of the materials. The steamed food is delicious.

Steamed in a steamer and cooked on the top

There is water under the steam. The water boils through heating. A large amount of water vapor over 100 degrees will go up, and then a lot of water vapor will converge on it. The water vapor is always 100 degrees, because the heat source is always heating! Because of the high energy of water vapor, it will move up rapidly, so the time to stay below is very short, and it is not easy to disperse on the top (the cover is to prevent the loss of steam heat), which will increase the pressure on the top layer, leading to the ripeness of the things on the top layer!

How Do Bun Steamers Work

There are largely two types of bun steamers: boilerless/connectionless and a la carte. The former is ideal for operations looking to batch cook large volumes of food quickly, while the latter is appropriate as a restaurant food steamer, facilitating cook to order items.

Traditional boilerless steamers require less frequent water maintenance and de-scaling, but cook times tend to be significantly longer when compared to a la carte steamers. Conversely, traditional a la carte steamers cook quickly, but also consume a greater volume of water and energy.

However, these distinctions are evolving. Advancements in industrial steamer technology are revolutionizing the a la carte steamer category. Traditional steamers use 55 gallons of water/hour. New commercial food steamer offerings are reducing the amount of water used to as little as 4.29 gallons of water/hour. These new units reduce water usage by 90%, cutting an operator’s water bill significantly.

With less water being used, the filter in the commercial food steamer is not working as hard as it used to. Therefore, filters only need to be changed once per year, compared to twice per year with traditional steam equipment. Not only will the operator save on filter costs, but the associated maintenance costs with de-scaling and changing the filter as well. These benefits will extend the life of the steamer.

How to Clean a Steamer

How to clean a steamer with vinegar
Whether yours is a handheld or a standup cleaner, follow this procedure to clean out or prevent mineral buildup.

Unplug and empty the water tank
If you've just used the steamer, unplug it and allow it to cool. Empty the water tank into a sink or bucket.

Fill the tank with vinegar
Fill the tank with distilled white vinegar or cleaning vinegar. Avoid using other types of vinegar because they may have sediment that interferes with the cleaning process.
If your steamer has considerable buildup, allow the vinegar to sit in the tank for 2 hours (or at least 30 minutes) to help break apart limescale and mineral deposits.

Turn on the steamer
Plug in the steamer and set it to the highest setting. This process may take a few minutes.

Expel the vinegar
Point the nozzle of the steamer into the sink or bucket, and then press the on button until all the vinegar is expelled from the tank. When no more steam is flowing, pour any vinegar remaining in the tank into the sink drain.

Fill the tank with distilled water
Refill the tank with distilled water up to the fill line.

Expel the water
With the steamer set on high, point the steamer nozzle into a sink or bucket and expel all the water in the tank. This step removes any traces of vinegar and helps blast out loose mineral deposits from the steamer's parts.

Cool and dry the steamer
Allow the steamer to cool completely and check that the water tank is completely empty.

Tips for maintaining a steamer
Always use distilled water to fill a steamer and don't overfill the tank. Tap water contains minerals that can clog the steamer.
Empty the water reservoir between steaming sessions. This is especially important for travel and handheld steamers. Dry components with a towel or air-dry before storing the steamer.
Keep water in the tank during use. When using the steamer, don't allow the tank to run dry because it can scorch or burn any remaining mineral deposits, making them more difficult to remove.
Always store the steamer in an upright position after double-checking there is no water in the reservoir.
Clean the steamer at the first sign of sputtering or diminished steam output.

FAQ

Q: What is a commercial steamer?

A: Steamers are used primarily to cook vegetables, seafood, and other foods where moisture retention is essential to visual appearance and taste.

Q: What are the two types of steamers?

A: There are largely two types of steamers: boilerless/connectionless and a la carte. The former is ideal for operations looking to batch cook large volumes of food quickly, while the latter is appropriate as a restaurant food steamer, facilitating cook to order items.

Q: What can you cook in a commercial steamer?

A: Foodservice operators typically use steamers to cook menu items like vegetables, seafood, potatoes and rice because this equipment usually provides fast production and helps the food retain moisture, nutrients and color. Operators can choose from countertop and floor models, depending on the volume and application.

Q: What steamer to use for bao buns?

A: It creates a little bit of condensation but most of it is collected by the steam basket itself, ensuring it will not drip down and make your bao buns soggy.

Q: What is a commercial steam kettle?

A: Jacketed steam kettles eject steam into an outer wall, creating an even flow of heat throughout the entire cooking basin. The temperature of the heat is determined by pressure, ranging from 1 to 50 psi. This produces temperatures ranging from 240ºF to 280ºF.

Q: How do commercial steam cleaners work?

A: With a combination of heat and high pressure, steam shoots out of the machine's hose on-command, giving you full control of which areas to target. The heat from the steam opens surface pores or moisturizes fabrics, allowing for total sanitization.

Q: What is the difference between a steamer and a fryer?

A: The Steamer is specifically designed to use water, and the Fryer is specifically designed to use oil or lard. Oil heats slower than water, and using the incorrect module can cause damage to the heating element. The parts for the Steamer and Fryer are not interchangeable.

Q: How do you clean a commercial steamer?

A: Add 2.5 gallons of water and 1 cup of white vinegar to the cooking compartment. Run the steamer for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, drain the vinegar mixture and allow the machine to cool. Once the steamer has cooled, remove pan racks, the steam collector plate, and then the steam distributor panel.

Q: Can you cook anything in a steamer?

A: Vegetables like broccoli and carrots, seafood like fish fillets and crab legs, and even rice can be cooked in a steamer. Using the microwave as a steamer or done on the stovetop, steamer recipes are an effective way to prevent a food's nutrients from being broken down, or lost, during the cooking process.

Q: How does a commercial steamer work?

A: To produce the steam, the water in the cavity may be heated by a gas or electric burner. On a "direct steam" model, steam is piped directly into the cavity from your building's steam supply. Other pieces of commercial kitchen equipment use steam to cook, such as combi ovens and rice cookers.
