Cooking Machine

What is Cooking Machine

A food steamer or steam cooker is a small kitchen appliance used to cook or prepare various foods with steam heat by means of holding the food in a closed vessel reducing steam escape. This manner of cooking is called steaming. Counted as one of the most versatile and practical kitchen appliances, a food steamer is a sealed pot with a set of steaming trays piled on top of each other. It is created to properly heat or cook food using its heat. The first step to using this appliance is to check the water level to make sure you put in the right amount. Second, you simply place your food - veggies, chicken, dumplings, what have you - on the steaming tray. After this, set a timer, and wait for your food to be cooked.

Advantages of Cooking Machine

Efficient and Healthy Cooking: Steaming is considered one of the healthiest cooking methods as it helps retain the natural nutrients, flavours, and colours of the food. It requires little to no oil, making it a healthier alternative to frying or sautéing.

Versatile Cooking Options: A cooking steamer offers versatility in terms of the types of ingredients you can steam. From vegetables and seafood to grains and dumplings, a steamer allows you to prepare a wide variety of dishes.

Preserves Texture and Moisture: Steaming helps retain the natural moisture of the food, preventing it from becoming dry or overcooked. It also preserves the texture, resulting in tender and flavorful results.

Time and Energy Efficient: Steaming is generally a quicker cooking method compared to other techniques such as boiling or roasting. Additionally, steamers are designed to be energy-efficient, reducing both cooking time and energy consumption.

Retains Nutrients: Steaming preserves the nutrients in food better than other cooking methods, as minimal water is used and the cooking time is shorter.

Enhances Flavour: Steam cooking allows the natural flavors of the food to shine through without the need for excessive seasoning.

How to Choose Food Steamer

Popular Types of Steamers
The latest trend in food steamers is to add technology. This takes the already popular stainless steel food steamers and makes them even more valuable and user-friendly. With digital timers, water sensors, and pre-set modes, you can set it and forget it. This makes the modern steamer compatible with your busy everyday life.

Material
Stainless steel food steamers are the most popular because the metal is non-reactive, durable, and stain-resistant. The metal also looks beautiful and helps your steamer to look attractive on your kitchen counter.
Other materials used for steamer construction include silicone, plastic, glass, and bamboo. Some are more affordable, and others are the traditional construction material. They each have drawbacks that make them not the ideal construction material for steaming.

Size
The steamer you choose should be large enough to cook your entire meal. You don't want to overload or pack the food in. This will prevent the steam from effectively cooking the food. Traditional baskets tend to be small, making them limiting and requiring you to buy multiple baskets. Other steamers try to save on space for compact storage, but this also means you sacrifice cooking capacity. A steamer that can accommodate an entire fish will be large enough to cook your entire meal.

Tiers
Having the ability to add tiers to your steamer makes it more functional. This lets you cook more than one type of food simultaneously. You could cook two different types of vegetables. Or you could prepare vegetables in one tier and your meat in the other. For those dessert lovers, you could prepare the main dish and dessert for multiple courses.

Functionality
If you're considering electric stainless steel food steamers, then look at the functions they can accomplish. While you're focused on the steaming ability, some units can do so much more. The Buydeem All-in-One Intelligent Steamer has built-in functions to stew, make yogurt, thaw, sterilize, and prepare baby food. This gives you more value for your investment and greater versatility in your kitchen.

How do Electric Steamers Work

Electric steamers are convenient and user-friendly kitchen appliances that use electricity to generate steam for cooking. They typically consist of a base unit with a heating element, a water reservoir, and one or more steaming compartments or trays. Here's a breakdown of how electric steamers work:

Water Reservoir

Electric steamers have a built-in water reservoir that you fill with water. The capacity of the reservoir varies depending on the model.

Heating Element

The heating element, located in the base unit, generates heat to boil the water in the reservoir, creating steam.

Steaming Compartments

Electric steamers come with one or more compartments or trays where you place your food. These compartments are usually stackable, allowing you to steam multiple ingredients simultaneously.

Control Panel

The control panel on the steamer allows you to set the desired cooking time and temperature. Some models may have additional features like pre-programmed cooking modes, delay start, or keep warm functions.

Steam Generation

As the water boils, steam is produced and rises through the steaming compartments, enveloping the food in hot, moist air.

Even Cooking

The steam circulates around the food, cooking it evenly and gently. Many electric steamers have adjustable vents or air holes to regulate the steam flow and ensure consistent cooking.

Steaming VS Other Cooking Methods

Steaming vs. Frying

Steaming and frying represent opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of cooking methods. Steaming involves cooking food with hot vapour, preserving its natural flavours and nutrients while keeping it moist and tender. In contrast, frying requires submerging food in hot oil, which can add significant amounts of fat and calories while altering the texture and flavour of the food. While frying can create crispy exteriors, it often involves less healthy cooking oils and can result in the loss of some nutrients due to high heat. Steaming is generally considered a healthier option, offering a lighter alternative that retains the food's inherent qualities without the need for added fats.

Steaming vs. Boiling

Both steaming and boiling involve cooking food with water, but they differ significantly in their cooking methods and outcomes. Steaming cooks food indirectly by exposing it to hot vapour, while boiling submerges the food in hot water. Steaming tends to preserve more nutrients and flavours since the food doesn't come into direct contact with water, which can leach out vitamins and minerals. Additionally, steaming usually requires less water and shorter cooking times compared to boiling, helping to retain the food's natural texture and colour. However, boiling is often preferred for certain foods, such as pasta and grains, where absorption of water is desirable for proper cooking.

Steaming vs. Baking

Steaming and baking are both gentle cooking methods that use indirect heat, but they differ in their applications and outcomes. Steaming involves cooking food with hot vapour, which helps retain moisture and preserves the food's natural flavours and nutrients. Baking, on the other hand, typically involves cooking food in a dry, hot environment, which can result in caramelisation, browning, and the development of complex flavours and textures. While steaming is excellent for delicate foods like fish and vegetables, baking is preferred for dishes that benefit from a crispy or golden exterior, such as bread, pastries, and roasted meats.

Steaming vs. Grilling

Steaming and grilling are two distinct cooking methods that produce different flavours and textures in food. Steaming involves cooking food with hot vapour, which keeps it moist and tender while preserving its natural flavours and nutrients. Grilling, on the other hand, involves cooking food directly over an open flame or hot surface, which can impart a smoky flavour and create crispy exteriors through caramelisation and Maillard reactions. While steaming is ideal for delicate foods like fish and vegetables, grilling is preferred for meats, poultry, and sturdy vegetables like bell peppers and eggplant. Grilling also offers the advantage of creating appealing grill marks and a visually appealing presentation.

How Should I Clean and Maintain My Cooking Steamer

Proper cleaning and maintenance of your cooking steamer will ensure its longevity and optimal performance. Follow these guidelines for cleaning and maintenance:

After Use

Allow the steamer to cool down before cleaning. Empty any remaining water from the reservoir and remove the steaming baskets or trays.

Hand-Washing

Most cooking steamers should be hand-washed using warm, soapy water. Use a non-abrasive sponge or cloth to clean the steaming compartments, lid, and any removable parts.

Tough Stains

For stubborn stains or residue, soak the affected parts in warm, soapy water for a while before gently scrubbing. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may damage the steamer's surfaces.

Cleaning the Base Unit

Use a damp cloth to wipe down the base unit and control panel. Avoid submerging the base unit in water or exposing it to excessive moisture.

Drying

Thoroughly dry all the components before reassembling the steamer or storing it to prevent mould or mildew growth.

Pierce the blunt end of the eggs with an egg piercer, as it prevents the eggs from bursting or cracking during the boiling process.
Place the egg holder on the boiler, and place the eggs. Close the lid once done.
Plug into the wall outlet and turn it on by pushing the ON/OFF switch. The control light will illuminate.
When the eggs are ready, the light will turn off, but the products must be manually switched off.
If you plan to serve the eggs immediately, switch off the appliance. If you want to keep the eggs warm, leave the appliance on until you are ready to serve them.
Remove the egg holder with the eggs from the water tray and hold them under normal water in case you want to serve them immediately after boiling. Switch off the appliance otherwise, the eggs will continue to bail and become harder.
After a short cool-down time of approximately 5 minutes, you may use the Instant Egg Bailer again.
Unplug the appliance after use.

TIP
Use extreme caution as the stainless steel lid becomes extremely hot. Always use the handle to remove the lid.
During use, the steam hole on the top of the lid gets very hot. Do not touch or cover the steam hole when in use.

What to Look for in an Electric Egg Cooker

1

Egg Capacity
Even if you'll only be using a few eggs at a time, you might want to make a double batch so you won't have to cook more later. Maybe you have a large family to feed or a potluck to bring deviled eggs to—in this case, you want a maker that accommodates a larger amount of eggs. On the other hand, hard-boiled eggs spoil faster than raw ones (hard-boiled eggs with the peel intact should be refrigerated within two hours of cooking and eaten within one week, while hard-boiled eggs that have already been peeled should be refrigerated and eaten within one to two days), so if you live in a small household or simply aren't going to use large quantities, a more compact cooker might be your best bet.

2

Controls
Many egg cookers have very simple controls. However, certain models have LED displays, lights, or audible alerts to help you monitor the cooking progress. While some models have just an on/off switch and cook according to the amount of water you add to the maker, others allow you to set the specific cook time.

3

Versatility
While most options can make poached eggs in addition to boiled eggs, others can make omelets or egg bites, as well. Some options go even further, being able to steam a variety of foods, such as vegetables and fish. If you only want to cook eggs in their shells, there's no need to pay for extra options you won't use.

4

Cleanup
Eggs can be finnicky. They can break, leak, even explode while cooking. It's important to look at cleaning instructions on an egg cooker before purchase. Some require little more than a wipe down with some warm water and a soapy rag. Others have dishwasher safe parts for easy cleaning. Double check the instructions, just in case.

How to Clean the Egg Cooker

Egg cookers are available in different designs which cater to the need of making boiled, poached and scrambled eggs for daily purpose.
One can make one or several eggs at one shot without any manual attention, since these cookers come with built in timers which alerts one when the cooking cycle is finished to switch of the powers and others have the automatic shut- down features.
Most essential steps of cleaning an egg cooker:
To give your daily use egg cooker a prolonged shell life, it would require some regular cleaning and maintenance.

Step 1

After every use it is recommended to completely switch off the machine and unplug it from the main supply. The best egg cooker remains hot during and after using it hence always make sure to the clean the egg cooker when it has completely cooled down.

Step 2

Next important thing to keep in mind is that the egg cooker is not dishwasher safe as the high temperature of the dishwasher might affect the plastic.
You can wash the lid, egg holder tray, poaching and steaming trays with mild detergent and wash off with hot water and dry completely wiping with a soft cloth.

Step 3

The main body or the heating vessel should be cleaned using a wet cloth. Never use any abrasive or any rough scrub pads to clean this non-stick vessel as it will leave scratches on the surface.
After cleaning the main body of the best egg cooker either rub a little amount of oil on it or can also use a solution by mixing water and vinegar, which will never allow the mineral deposition to take place on the surface.

Step 4

Also, a very important thing to remember is that we should never immerse the boiler base or the electric chord in water during the process of cleaning the equipment. If one can follow these simple steps at home to clean the egg cooker , it will definitely be in a good operating condition for few more years.
